Corwen, The Berwyn Mountains and Clwydian Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty

We are based in Corwen North Wales which sits at the foot of the Berwyn Mountains at the western end of the Dee Valley. Only an hour from the Midlands and the cities of England’s North-West, Corwen is an excellent base to explore Snowdonia and the rest of North Wales . Many of our activities take place in the Dee Valley ,on the Berwyn  Mountains and within the Clwydian Range. This area is famously associated with Owain Glyndwr who was the last Welshman to hold the title Prince of Wales, Owain Glyndwr instigated a revolt against the English at the turn of the 15th Century raising his standard at Glyndyfrdwy (just east of Corwen) on September 16th 1400.

The Berwyn Mountains remain relatively unknown, and yet this range of mountains stretches all the way from Llangollen in the east, along the Dee Valley to Bala in the west.  The highest peak is that of Cadair Berwyn, at 830 metres, but there are 24 peaks above 600 metres (2000 ft).

The Clwydian Range forms a 35km north – south chain of undulating hills extending to 160 sq.km and rising to 554 metres at the summit of Moel Famau in the centre of the area. The hills stretch from the Vale of Clwyd in the west to the foothills of the Dee Estuary to the east; from Prestatyn Hillside in the north to the Nant y Garth pass in the South.
